Complaints Policy

I hope that you will feel able to talk to me if you have any concerns about your counselling or the way I work with you. I value an open and honest therapeutic relationship, and I welcome feedback as an opportunity to reflect on and improve my practice.

Raising a concern

If you are unhappy with any aspect of your counselling, I encourage you to raise this with me in the first instance. You can do this verbally or in writing, either during a session or by emailing sarah.guyan@hotmail.com.

I will listen to your concerns carefully and respectfully and, wherever possible, work with you to understand what has happened and find a way forward.

If you would prefer not to raise your concern directly with me, or if you feel that we have been unable to resolve the matter, you can contact the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).

BACP Professional Conduct Procedure

I am a BACP member and work in accordance with the BACP Ethical Framework for the Counselling Professions.

BACP has a Professional Conduct Procedure for concerns about the practice or conduct of its members. Information about making a complaint can be found on the BACP website:

How to complain about a BACP member

I hope that you will never need to use this procedure, but I believe it is important that you know how to raise a concern and what options are available to you.
